Abstract Challenges in strawberry picking made selective harvesting robotic technology very demanding. However, the of strawberries is a complicated task forming few scientific research questions. Most available solutions only deal with specific scenario, for example, single variety fruit isolation. Nonetheless, most economically viable (e.g., high‐yielding and/or disease‐resistant) varieties are grown dense clusters. The current perception such use cases inefficient. In this work, we developed novel system capable several unique features. These features allow to complex scenarios, Our concept modular makes our reconfigurable adapt different scenarios. We designed, manufactured, and tested patented head 2.5‐degrees freedom (two independent mechanisms one dependent cutting system) removing possible occlusions targeted without any contact flesh avoid damage bruising. addition, localize detect their key points, determine ripeness. For purpose, introduced two new data sets. Finally, commercial growing field farm three varieties. results show effectiveness reliability proposed system. designed was able remove harvest effectively. ripeness 95% accuracy. total, 87% all detected success rate 83% pluckable fruits. also discuss series open questions discussion section.
